Tropical Storm Ian is tracking towards Florida and may soon hit hurricane status

Tropical Storm Ian was strengthening Sunday night, and it is forecast to intensify more rapidly Monday and Tuesday

Ian could hit western Florida or another part of the Gulf Coast as a powerful hurricane as early as midweek this week.

Tropical Storm Ian was some 430 miles southeast of the western tip of Cuba at 8pm ET

Ian is going to be a large and powerful hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and spread its impacts over a large portion of the Florida peninsula

Pasco County Schools said schools and offices would be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Florida Keys could get two to four inches of rain, with some areas receiving up to six inches through Tuesday evening

Flash flooding and mudslides are also possible in high terrain in Jamaica and Cuba.

A tropical storm watch was in effect for Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, and a tropical storm warning was in effect for the Cuban provinces of La Habana, Mayabeque and Matanzas.
